Rote Learning of Munster Noun Declension
le Cionaodh
It
has been my experience that no method is more effective for learning noun declensions
than
to systematically decline them in a routine pattern.
As you learn new nouns, you may wish to immediately decline them fully,
and
while doing so, properly categorise them by declension.
There are five declensions and a small category of irregular nouns, for which
below
you will find six downloadable PDF documents, one for each declension
category.
Within the first five documents you will find eighteen pages each, one for each
letter of the alphabet,
omitting letters not normally used in Irish. By having
a separate page for each letter,
you can alphabetise your collection of declined
nouns
(As there are only a handful of irregular nouns, that document has only
one page).
Here is an example of how one might fill in one of the declension pages:
This
method of learning may not suit all learners, but if you think you may benefit
from this approach,
download the following six files:
1st Declension ------ 2nd Declension ------ 3rd Declension ------ 4th Declension ------ 5th Declension ------ Irregular Nouns
